Kickstarter Donors Pledged Nearly $100M Last Year

Kickstarter donors pledged $99,344,382 in 2011 to the site's user-proposed gadgets, movies, games and other projects. Not all that money was actually spent; 46 percent of the year's Kickstarter projects got the amount they were seeking, which Kickstarter requires before any money is transferred. True crowdfunding -- where average investors would get equity in return for their investment -- isn't legal yet, but it's getting closer.
