Australian court finds Google guilty of misleading consumers
An Australian court on Tuesday ruled that Google engaged in “misleading and deceptive” advertising practices, Reuters reported. The court said that between March 2006 and July 2007, Google published search results for queries related to Honda Australia with paid advertisements for Honda competitor�CarSales. The advertisements led users to believes that�CarSales�was linked to Honda Australia.�The search giant argued that it was not responsible for misleading search results since it was merely a conduit for advertisers. The court disagreed, however, and ordered Google to set up a compliance program that will ensure paid advertisements will not mislead consumers.�The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission praised the ruling, saying that Google and other Internet search engines will now be held responsible for “deceptive paid

James Murdoch Stepping Down as BSkyB Chairman
More fallout from PhoneGate: News Corp. executive James Murdoch is stepping down as chair of British Sky Broadcasting, the U.K. satellite TV company, according to a report from BSkyB's news service. HomeAway Buys Spanish Vacation Rentals Site Top Rural
HomeAway has acquired Top Rural S.L., which offers vacation rentals in France, Spain, Italy and Portugal. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, except that it was an all-cash transaction. An overwhelming 98% of new iPad owners are either “very satisfied” (82%) or “somewhat satisfied” (16%) with their Apple tablets, a recent survey conducted by ChangeWave has determined. Visa drops Global Payments following theft of 1.5 million card numbers
Following a massive security breach, Visa has dropped Global Payments from its registry of providers that meet data security standards, The Associated Press reported on Monday. Global Payments CEO Paul Garcia said that the company will continue to process Visa transactions, however being dropped from the registry “could give our partners some pause that they’re doing business with someone who experienced a breach.” Garcia fully expects his company to be reinstated once it has been issued a new report of compliance, although he declined to specify when that might happen. Ready or not, here it comes: Timeline takes over Facebook today [update]
After being greeted with mixed reactions, millions of users have warmed up to Facebook’s new layout, dubbed Timeline. The new face of Facebook places all of a user’s interactions with the social network on the profile page in reverse chronological order, giving friends a single destination with infinite scrolling on which they can observe all status updates, photos, wall posts and more. While Facebook tried its best to make the transition an easy one, the company said in January that the slow march to making Timeline a requirement was underway. Amazon may bring three new versions of its Kindle Fire tablet to market in 2012, according to a report from Taiwan Economic News.
